Duck Egg~

Good Morning, it is 7:00 am and I am trying to get a post done before my chickens wake up!

Wish me luck, ha ha!

A few weeks ago while perusing through Craigslist looking for furniture to redo, I came across this beauty. For a while now there has been a blank wall in my front room, I have played with so many scenarios to fill up this space, but alas nothing looked "right".

When I saw this piece, with its pretty "Duck Egg" blue paint, I fell head over heels for it. I begged the pool man and bribed him with cookies to go with me to pick it up....he huffed and puffed but he went and, the blank wall is finally filled with the perfect piece!!

Please try to ignore the box to the right,and the cord {the pool man installed a little light on the top of the armior so at night it lights up just enough to highlights the treasures inside, but I need my mom to sew a cord cover for it...I am thinking one out of burlap will due}...

Our front room is now the work room for this stay at home momma who likes to paint furniture and hunt treasures! It is not pretty by any stretch of the imagination, but hey it works!

 I had to have this sign, for many reasons. 

1. It has a vintage camper on it, which makes me heart pitter patter!

2. I adore what it says...

3. It was hand made by one of my best friends husbands...

So ya know it was perfect above my new piece!

 I fell in love with the pretty details through out the piece.... you really can't find furniture made as well as it was way back when now a days that is probably why I love antiques so much....solid wood, attention to detail, sturdy for a house full of little punks like mine... 

 And the color was perfect for our front room, as I have tried to add more blue tones to the room!

{ugly cord again....I really need to fix that, my dad would be mortified...he has cord issues}

If you are interested in painting something in a similar color it is "Duck Egg" by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint with ASCP dark wax applied to give it an aged look.

So there it is my newest most favorite piece!

Whoops, gotta run as I just heard one of my punk's alarms go off, which means someone is out of their beds...most likely the oldest one...which means I have to get back to my mommy duties of making waffles and pouring milk!

And my littlest is getting his one year molars in, all four of them, and well he is something else when he is teething, poor fella....

Silver & Succulents~

Well hello there, my mom brought to my attention the other day that I haven't posted in a while...and goodness she was right. For the last two days I have been trying to upload photos to this silly post, and my work computer won't let me...my work computer won't let me BLOG....just one more reason I really don't need to work here...{she laughs} and I honestly can't stand it when something doesn't work, especially when it come to technology, it drives me batty. I will sit in my chair for hours trying to figure it out...and then get all pissy and throw a major fit, yes totally unattractive, but I feel better once I do that. Usually it comes to user error but this time I had to change computers...so now that you know my fret for the last two days, let's move on shall we....

I am on the home stretch of working two jobs and can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and my goodness it feels amazing! There have been some struggles these last couple of months, I won't lie. Working two jobs and having a family, is hard and I give so many props to those of you that do this on a day to day basis.

I have a lot of unfinished projects, a house that desparately needs a good scrub down, a dog that needs a week of daily runs to release his pent up energy, a kitty that needs some extra rubs, a husband that needs a date night with just me, and some kids that need their mommy to sit on the floor for a while and just play with them...no dish towel over her shoulder or toilet brush in her left hand.

Oh and also, my funny bone really needs me, because golly that has been sitting in the corner of my bedroom collecting dust bunnies...yelling at me to bring back the "laughter"....life and this silly ole blog have been way too serious latey.

All these things...they are waiting for me....and I can't wait to indulge!

As i sail into these last couple weeks of work, I keep praying that everything will work itself out...the self doubt will subside and I can finally follow my passions!

I thought I would share with you my newest obsession, Silver & Succulents!

I found these silver plated cups at Goodwill, and brough 8 of them home.

They sat for a while, and finally after a trip to the local nursery, I planted some succulents in them and placed them on my dining room table, along with a crate and some old pots I purchased from  here....I felt like these symbolized Spring, which I am so looking forward to!

Flippy flops, shorts and a little "pinwheel" necklace are waiting for me...once I finally find my freedom and fall into my role as mommy! I have been working on my etsy store as well....I know I keep saying that, and you are probably rolling your eyes as you read this, I know I would be....but I have to many treasures sitting in suitcases that need new homes!

Ta Ta for now lovelies....

p.s. If you keep succulents inside with no sunlight, you only need to water them when the soil is dry...just a little tid bit!

Vintage Settee~

 

I have a very rambunctious 4.5 year old.... Most of the items in my home aren't precious to me, which means if something breaks, I don't have a major melt down, usually I can move on. I do however, have my quarks, like dirty hands being run down the walls in the hallway, or climbing on the ledges in my house....or jumping on my couch, which happens to be one of my punks favorite past times.

I found this Vintage settee on Craigslist, and I fell madly in love with it. After a few text messages back and forth with the owner, I had cut a deal, and the settee was to be mine. I tried to get the best price for her, as I knew it would have to be recovered...and when I went to get her, there were a few minor cracks in the frame, and she was more beat up then I had thought...

I managed to get an even better deal for her....and as I loaded her in the back of the pool man's truck, he actually admitted to me that she was a purdy piece of furniture. This could have been a first for the pool man commenting on my vintage furniture...and probably a last!

The sette sat all through Christmas behind my dining table as a bench...it didn't get used and I actually, **gasp** forgot about her...until the other day, when I pulled her out to gaze at her beauty... the moment I took my camera out to take a few photos of her... out of no where comes my 4 year old...playing games with me while I tried to shoot photos...belly laughing cause he was being such a pistol...he is if nothing else, his own biggest fan and loves attention like a new puppy dog! Of course I indulged him for a bit...

A few minutes later, and some sorted smiles from me as my punk climbed over my furniture to get in some photos....I stood back and looked at her...trying to decide what fabric I should purchase to recover her and make her purdy again...and all of a sudden my punk jumps up on a piece of furniture that sits right where she would officially be going...he did some silly dance stomping all over my fluffy white pillows, and checked out the window to see if any of his neighbor friends were outside to play with...and it dawned on me...

In all her tattered, beat up glory, she is beautiful...she is perfect for my 4 year old rambunctious punk to climb on..and even though she isn't perfect, I think I am going to keep her in her raw state for a while...after all, she seems to feel comfortable just the way she is, and that....that is something I long for....

She went in her new spot today, and I look at her often as she is a good reminder that even though I am not perfect....I need to learn to be comfortable with who I am...comfortable in my own skin....tattered, raw and quarky.

She will make a good perch for my punk as he watches the rain fall out the front window and she adds so much personality to our front room! I think she is my favorite piece so far in our nest...but like always this momma has something else up her sleeve! {she snickers}

Cheers to learning to love what lies before you in the mirror...tattered and raw...not perfect but YOU! And Cheers, to rambunctious 4 year olds...who like to steal the show!

Our Christmas House~

Hello and welcome to Our Christmas House as part of the Holiday House Walk graciously hosted by the ever talented Jennifer Rizzo.

Make sure to pay the stop before me, Anne Marie a visit as her home has been beautifully decorated for the season!  She never ceases to amaze & inspire me!

This year we have been blessed with a new member of the family and with a wee little one in the mix, decorating has been a bit challenging. This guy, as cute and sweet as he is feels that everything is basically "his"...and does not understand the word "no"...so my sights have been set a little higher {literally} & more on the simple side this year when it comes to decorating...

{he's a rascal I tell ya...}

Let's go on in and take a quick peek around, shall we....

{every year our oldest son gets to pick out a "charlie brown" tree to make his own...}

 Excuse the mess of baby toys, I try to persuade him with colorful things so he will stop grabbing the garland or the pretty bows...just watch your step please!

 I saw a photo years ago with angel wings on the back of each chair in the dining room and for the life of me couldn't get it out of my head. I decided this was the year I needed to add some whimsical sweetness to our dining room! {my husband thinks the wings are complete non-sense}

 {of Course Audrey needed to be a part of the festivities...}

I am a little obsessed with vintage trucks and what a better way to use them in decorating then by making them haul around little Christmas trees! Of course, little hands love to play with these and honestly I like it when they do...

Let's head into the kitchen, where you just happened to catch me right before a small gathering we had with friends...

Grab yourself a slice of cheesecake, a glass of wine and sit a spell...

From the kitchen table....

You can see our mantel with the stocking that were hung with care & adorned with candy canes by my 4 year old...

{little hands love these trees as well...I find them in the most peculiar places...}

uh oh I hear the boys a clattering upstairs, wanna see how we spread the cheer in their rooms? C'mon up....

 Why of course with these sweet little vintage "tootsie" trucks hauling Christmas trees! These cuties came from my friend Michelle~ Vintage Junky & they bring Christmas cheer to my boys rooms! 

Now I am sure you are wondering where are Christmas tree is...he is here...making the whole house smell of a fresh pine forest. I was going to rush home from work and get him all decked out in lights and add him to this post, but when my oldest punk in his no longer cute little baby voice that I miss so much, asked me to sit on the couch and snuggle with him this evening while we watched a Christmas movie... I just couldn't resist his big green eyes and coy smile...he often teaches me that sometimes you just need to slow down and really enjoy the moment...we enjoyed the moment snuggled together on our couch, just him and me....as our tree can stand another night without decorations.

He is so excited for Christmas this year as he finally understands what "Christmas" really means and his eagerness has made me enjoy this season to the fullest...afterall, Christmas through a child's eyes is nothing but magical!

Audrey~

Lookey there Monday came and went and here I am sitting at my computer late at night uploading pictures of a mannequin {I promised last week}, I named Audrey and thinking yo myself she would be much prettier with a vintage horse ribbon tied to her waist...

It's a wonder the pool man thinks I am off my rocker half the time...he just might be right!

Thankfully I have you girls  that understand my obsessions and late night posts!

I would like to introduce you to "Audrey"...our newest member if you will to the family....

I scouted her out on Ebay, and ended up buying her directly from an older lady that had stored her so nicely just for me {or at least that is what I tell myself}. I have wanted a true "Wolf" dress form for some time, but couldn't afford the large price tag most Wolf Dress forms come with.

 After Searching for some time, I got "Audrey" for an amazing deal...and I hope some day, she can be part of my other "d r e a m"...

Having a little space of my own to sell vintage treasures and what nots!

Audrey is hoping my dream comes true as well, so she can be prettied up in a rustic space surrounded by ruffles, chippy paint and found vintage treasures.

But, for now I think she is pretty just the way she is!

 

As for Lucey, she is staying put in my bedroom! {she grins}

Our Little Bird's Nursery~

Well hello there, if anyone still reads this silly old blog, I am making good on a promise I made to you finally!

As promised, uh something like 8 months ago, here is our little bird's nursery!

The bedding is an old Wendy Belissimo argyle design I got off Ebay for a steal.  The sheets went with the set and I got a few extra on Ebay as well. The colors are perfect for his room, so I was quite pleased when the whole set and the extra sheets only cost me $75.oo! 

 

 
I didn't have a lot of money to put into his room, the walls stayed the same color, chocolate brown, the wainscoting was already there in a crisp white, and the crib is a hammie down from his older brother complete with teeth marks along the top railing!

 

As I am typing this I have a sleeping sugar beat in my lap....the sound of his heavy breathing soothes my soul...but makes typing a bit of a challenge!

 

The only  new large piece I purchased was the changing table which we also use as a dresser for his clothes...the window was given to me and the banner is from vintage maps found off Etsy.

 

I used a lot of old locker baskets to hold diapers, burp cloths and uh.... more diapers!

I got all 5 baskets off Ebay as well.

 

 We re-did his closet by taking the ugly mirrored 1980's doors off and my handy pool man created a built in for all the baby's goodies!  I have to say his closet looks bigger and more organized now!  

However, don't ask me how long it took us to finish this closet or about my lack in judgement when I painted the wood built- ins tangerine orange while the pool man stood there watching as I painted knowing I was having a very manic pregnant moment {please tell me you all had one of these?}. After all was said and done the built- in are now white the color it should have been to begin with!

The globe is from Etsy, and the little doggie was a thrift store find...

And little airplanes made by a friend for my shower, I loved them so much I used painted clothes pins from Etsy to attach them to the hangers...

The dresser in the closet is vintage and holds his bedding and uh, more diapers! I got it at a local resale shoppe for a steal and painted it primer white! Yes, Primer White in the spray can!

The suitcase is from Ebay...

His room is a bit more modern and clean then how I usually decorate, which really means there isn't a whole lot of crap laying around like in the rest of my house! {she grins}

 I tried to make his room have a different feel then his brothers, so they each had their own indivdual space.

The wood rocking horse is very old and was my grandmother's....

And the sea grass rug sits in front of his crib for some texture in the room...the pool man hates the feel of it on his feet, but I am smitten with sea grass!

His name starts with a "G" if you hadn't figured that out yet... we now have three G's in our home! My two boys along with the dog who happens to be named Greg! 

There are small touches from Etsy here and there as well, and personalized signs with his name that hang in the closet and in the jack and jill bathroom the boys will share....but my favorite piece in the whole room is his mobile!

  I hope once he is sleeping in his room he will find it just as amazing as I do!

Romantic Country~

Well hello there darlings!

Just thought I would pop in here while I devour a stick of mentos at my desk...it was either mentos or cheese covered popcorn that leaves a buttery residue all over your teeth and mouth, I chose the Mentos, i figured the baby would thank me later!

Quite a few months ago, Sunday Hendrickson and fabulous photographer, John Ellis ran sacked my home...uh-hem, I mean spent the entire day styling and staging each room with different treasures, as they took photo after photo of my home!

I was completely blown away when I got the e-mail asking if they could come and shoot my home...I am still a little awe struck that my home was featured in the latest edition of Romantic Country Magazine...

I only told my besties about the news, ya know just in case they decided not to include our nest in the magazine, so please forgive me for not sharing sooner...

 

I am humbled to be featured with so many creative and talented women, some I call my friends, such as the ever talented Jennifer Rizzo and the inspiring Tracey from French Larkspur! This magazine is full of inspiring ideas and super talented women...if you get a chance grab a copy for yourself!

Thank you Sunday for all your hard work, and thank you Kim, for creating a beautiful story that compliments our family and our home perfectly...and lastly thank you to Fifi for allowing my home to be in such a wonderful magazine.

Scarlet~

It rained most of the weekend here in San Clemente...which gave me a good reason to stay in and be lazy...we have all been lazy lads this weekend....but as I type this my son who is suppose to be napping is playing games in his bed, singing songs, and pretending he is an airplane...apparently he didn't get the lazy note...honestly it is pretty funny to listen to, but at the same time, he should be sleeping!

Anyhoo, just be lucky that my 3.5 year old still naps, right??

{she grins...if I had it my way he would nap until he is 18!}

Last week my sweet mom finished making me the pillows for her new daybed that resides in our loft, and can I just say what a wonderful job she did, I am pleased as punch...thank you mommy!

Here is "Scarlet" not be confused with Charlotte.... all dressed up and ready for her big reveal:

This is what you see when you walk passed the loft, please note this room is pretty tiny, so taking photos is a bit challenging!

This little red suitcase came all the way from farm chicks and adds just the right amount of vintage to the bed..

 

I am trying to de-clutter a bit around the house, probably just a nesting phase, but I want to keep this room as simple as possible, so nothing will go on the walls, just the stripes and the bed will pretty much be like this once the barn door is installed and the shutters are in....hope grandma likes it!

Before I go I must include a few things I am thankful for, or what kind of "Thanksgiving" post would this be?

1. I am thankful for a son who pushes the limits and makes me be a better version of myself daily.

2. I am thankful for parents who forgive and don't judge me on my actions.

3. I am thankful for a pool man that loves me despite my loud tongue and somewhat obsessive compulsive personality..

And lastly I am thankful for quick drying nail polish! :)

I must be going as my son is calling my name, and yelling, "mom, I waked up"...which makes me laugh cause he never went to sleep in the first place that little boogar!

Our Loft~

 
 In the coming weeks our loft will turn from a place we used to lay our punk down to play on the floor when he was just a wee one, while mommy shopped, I mean worked on the computer, to a bedroom for grandma!

Amazing how quickly things can change!

Our now guest room is slowly being dismantled and our loft is slowly transforming into a bedroom. Last week I made the biggest purchase we have to make for welcoming baby, a trundle bed...a twin trundle bed mind you. Grandma went from sleeping in a full size bed with several pillows, a feather duvet and nice sheets to a TWIN trundle bed...I swear she wasn't demoted!

Here is the bed I choose for the loft:

 

I know I know...nothing vintage, nothing one of a kind and not the pretty one I really wanted from Pottery Barn ~ "Charlotte":

  

Blasted Pottery Barn, why do you have to be so expensive...however after a week or so of sulking and throwing minor fits like a two year old, I moved on, to the bed above...or should we call her second best...{ahh how sad, I won't call her that to her face, pinky promise}.

I decided that all she needed was a good staging and she would be just as pretty as  "Charlotte", and so I named her "Scarlet" and found a pretty bedspread made out of my favorite fabric:

 

And bought some Extra fabric off etsy so my mom can make two lumbar size pillows with white pom pom trim....and  because I think it would be fun, and she doesn't know it yet I am going to ask for two more pillows in a different size in black and white ticking...my other favorite fabric!

Of course I will find a comfy feather duvet and pretty sheets so grandma still feels as special as she is in our nest!

Once "Scarlet" is all dolled up in her big girl attire, I think she will be just as pretty as "Charlotte"!

You still with me?

M~kay, after that is all done and put together my next mission is to find an old barn door...

With a track system on the top so my mom can have some privacy while she is lounging in her room comforting a small infant late at night....oh sorry I mean while she is sleeping soundly in her twin trundle bed...

Right now there is no door...but my idea runs something like this:

 

Yeehaw, ok not in yellow, but you get the idea!

And then, oh yea it gets better, we need to find some shutters...because our loft has two huge cut outs for windows along one wall...and well that will not give grandma the ability keep quiet while we sleep and while she is feeding our wee one early in the morning...I mean while she is reading peacefully in her twin trundle...

I have my work cut out for me, and so does the pool man hence why we are not waiting to make these changes...I for-see lots and lots and lots of baking in my future...motivation for the pool man to get things checked off his honey do list!

And then...oh yea it keeps going, we are back to the babies room to finish the closet, in which I just found these:

 

Vintage metal locker baskets, **swoon**!

And if we happen to have a girl, I would love to do something like this~~ pretty fab~u~lous...huh?

ok, all this writing and thinking about honey do lists has made me tired...and it is still raining...

So don't mind me, I am going to crawl under my desk right now and take a snooze...

The boss is away the cat will play!

Oh and you know the myth about pregnant girls craving pickles and ice cream, etc...

Not true for this one...try soup.

Yup that is all I am craving, tomato or lentil or minestrone soup!

 P.s we are heading to the pumpkin patch this weekend on a 30 acre farm, for tractor rides, a corn maize a petting zoo...and bull riding...ok I just lied about the last one... 

but anyhoo should be a blast!!

I will take photos for once and share...our time on the farm!

Me on a farm, it is almost like an oxymoron....although I do like the idea, better go and spit shine my cowgirl boos!

Our Punk's Closet~

Good Morning and happy Monday to you all!!!

ok, ok, you got me, I know it is not Monday...and I promised I would have this posted on Monday, and you were all dying to see my son's closet...

Weren't you!

But the strangest thing happened...

Monday, came...

Me and my punk enjoyed the day together, just the two of us..

And then it went and I never pulled this silly old blog up....

I also took a two and half hour nap and woke up seriously grumpy.

So grumpy the boy and I had to go get a yogurt to get mommy out of her funk!

So anyway on to our punk's closet...

Here is the before:

 

Gross I know...so many toys, nothing organized, and those doors...Awful!

So together my punk and I ripped the doors off, then the tracks and then he helped me move everything out of his closet...throwing most of it around the house!

Good times!!

  

It all ended up in the loft in one huge disorganized pile...

and if I didn't have a baby in my belly, this would have really bothered me..

But for some reason I am way more relaxed on my OCD lately...

I then painted the closet a little darker shade of brown then his room...

I really wanted some fun blue and white striped wall paper...

But alas it was too expensive, so brown it is!

 

It took a while to get the pool man motivated but after two days we had the main shelving unit completed, built completely out of precut wood, and painted the same color as the bead board in his room.

We even let the punk help paint, it was interesting to say the least.

And after some measuring and some arranging we finally, after a month of slaving away {add sarcasm here} have this:

 
Enough room for most of his toys....three bins for more small toys...

A shelf at the very top for...yup, more toys, but mostly the baby ones he hardly plays with...

And more bins for the dreaded stuff animals...I whittled them down when he was sleeping the other day...

Because that child, I swear he won't play with something for a year and if he sees it, it is like a brand new toy and he can't part with it...and it is the same with stuffed animals.

So there are a few that will make their way to the donation bin ASAP, but I have to be stealth and hide them or he will grab them from me and hug them and tell me they are his!

And then I will feel bad and put them back in his closet...but honestly we don't need them, now do we?

 
 
I made sure the books and toys he did play with on a regular basis were within his reach,

And I used vintage suitcases to store some baby things, that momma just can't part with just yet...

{oh come on, I know you all have a few things....uhm, hello...right?}

 

And we made sure to measure the space where his clothes will hang, so that this closet grows with him...

Here is another little secret, I can't get rid of these clothes, most of them don't fit him, but the wee little overalls, well gosh they stole my heart, so for now they will reside here...

Until momma finds the will power to donate them....

**sniff sniff**

But we made sure to make the distance between each bar was far enough away so that when he is older his bigger shirts and pants can hang properly!

 
We covered the spaces on the top and the bottom where we ripped out the tracks with long pieces of wood to cover the ugly ply wood...

And walla we are done!

Now just one more closet to go, and this one will be a wee bit more fun, since it is a wee bit bigger!

But you should see the state of my house...
