Last Sunday I headed to dinner with some girlfriends to celebrate a birthday, as I was headed out the door I realized I hadn't even run a brush through my hair since that morning....nor did I have an ounce of makeup on...and I probably had baby spit up down the back of my shirt as well...{glamorous to say the least}...
Too many times I have forgotten to take a few extra minutes for me in the morning, or before we leave for a family outing. I am busy making bottles, finding lost blankets and Power Ranger action figures, or nagging the pool man to help me find my car keys. A sad state of affairs as I have put my appearance on the back burner for something called "life".
I made a pact with myself to start putting myself first for a few minutes each morning...
To run a brush through my hair, throw on some mascara and blush, to do simple things that really take no time at all, but would make me feel better about myself during the day...
With that in mind, I have found several fun hair styles I would love to try some day....
Love the messy look here...easy enough to do I think...
My hair might be a little to thick for most of these...but worth a shot to look this cute!
Might take some help from a friend, but fun nonetheless...

A Beautiful Mess explains step by step how to achieve these looks...

Love Maegan even does video tutorials on how to braid your hair like this...

Of course who doesn't love the messy bun look?

& adding a flower to any hairstyle always makes a flirty impact...

Just a couple minutes out of a whole day isn't asking too much, right? I might have to let the baby suck on a matchbox car or allow my oldest punk a few more minutes of "Sponge-bob" to achieve these looks, but it is worth it to feel a little more put together so to speak...
And if I get really crazy, and let the baby chew on two match box cars and allow my other punk to tear apart my bed so he can kung fu fight with himself I might be able to achieve this look:

And I am convinced a messy bun and smokey eyes would be complete with a pair of these...

A girl can dream... can't she?
Cheers to taking a few extra minutes for yourself!
xoxo~
p.s. if anyone has any tips on getting curly/frizzy/out~ of~ control hair {uh hem....my hair} straight, I would love to hear them...

Girl! I hear ya' on this one BOY do I ever...
As a girl who never left the house without make-up I sit here today at our shop 'in town' IN PUBLIC, no make up & a 3 year old cutting paper into small shreds at a neighboring desk. HA! I NEED TO GET BACK IN THE GROOVE!!!
I wanna see a pic of you all decked out messy bun & smoky eyes to boot! ;) I'll even pitch in a 3rd matchbox car for good measure! :)
The pool man just might notice also! ;)

I need a few extra hours...I mean minutes for myself!
I have pinned the same twirly bun hair do thing too.
I think my arms might cramp up if i try to do it myself - ha!
As for your hair - have you thought of a brazilian blow out? I heard they kick ass.
And in no way is a brazilian blow out similar to a brazilian wax.
YIKES.
XOX
ps - i have been trying to figure out how to convince my man to buy me some wellies.... he doesnt get why i want a pair of "ugly galoshes". LOL

I love the long loose with the braid braided in... I don't know how to do that... I think I need another girl to live with me so that can happen. And you know I love a smokey (not dirty!) eye

Tara,
Can I just let you know how happy I am to have you back with fresh posts! I am so happy for you and your decision to stay home with you babes. Just when you are making that decision, I am returning to part-time work {just 20 hrs} after 13 years of being home with my girls! I feel blessed to have been 100% committed to them for those years but as they are growing and in school all day, I am feeling a tug back to my professional self. Isn't it a blessing that we have these choices?
All my best~
Jill

Pretty hair styles! I have frizzy, super thick hair and it helps me to wash it, dry it, and straighten it at night. Then, in the morning, I run the straightener through it again. I guess the oils help smooth it out over night? Gross? lol And having a really good straightener that gets really hot is super important! Good luck!

love those looks. i am hair challenged and could never pull those off on myself AND i have layers which make it look sprigy...ugh! they are so pretty though. oh to get rid of frizz get the brazillian blowout. it's transformed my hair. expensive and possibly toxic, but kinda worth it;) oh the price of looking good.

I swear by Victoria Secret So Sexy Straight shampoo and condition.
I know! So random...but the stuff works.

Great hairstyles but I am seriously a lost cause when it comes to hair. I don't even know how to braid and I have 2 girls...so pathetic! I pretty much wear my hair 3 ways, ponytail, down or half up. Thanks for the inspiration maybe I can teach myself something new now ;)

Love the messy bun and it works best with curly, frizzy, out of control hair:) And the wellies so cute. Wish I was younger so I wouldn't look totally ridiculous in them!!

It's 4:13 in the afternoon, and I'm still in my pjs.
I'd say I need to follow your advice and take a few extra minutes to prepare myself for the day, too!
I hit the ground running....breakfast, beds to make, kids to homeschool, lunch to make, laundry, and on and on and on.....
I'm going to go shower and get ready now...my husband does NOT need to see me looking the exact same way I looked when he left this morning..YOU'VE INSPIRED ME!
Glad your back.

Now....can I also say...I have m.i.s.s.e.d. you...so glad to see you back.

those hairstyles are sooo cute! I've tried to do these things with my hair but I think it's a talent I don't possess..... :)
Have a great day!
Maybe I'll try one more time to do something with my hair. ;)

Chiming in with the "HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE AGAIN!" comments!
Yesterday I put my (wild crazy curly hair) in one of those rolled to the side pony tails, then pinned the "tail" in pieces to make curls, and my sweet boys thought I looked "pretty". It was easy, a nice change, and much better than my standard hair in a clip/ponytail day.
You are right though, just a few minutes to do a little bit for ourself, and it makes a big difference in our day. Besides YOU ARE WORTH IT!

Such pretty hair styles...although when I do the messy bun look my kids think I look ridiculous. But you my dear already have gorgeous hair! So happy to be catching up with you and all your happy news. So, so good:)
