Once a week or so I hit up a local thrift shoppe that is on my way home. About a month ago, and yes that is how long this poor little dresser has been sitting in my garage waiting for her makeover...I found this dresser sitting in front of the thrift shoppe with a $15.00 price tag.
She was beat up and one of her drawers didn't work too well and the bottom handles were broken off, but I saw some potential in her, and being that I love to keep good looking vintage items in their original state, i figure this little Q~T was so beat up I wouldn't feel bad painting her.
The pool man fixed her drawers upon many nagging requests from me.....
And, I didn't want to spend much money to fix her up so as I was digging through my paint closet I found the left over Turquoise paint I used on my shutters , and since this little sweetie is going in the same room I figured Turquoise was the color she needed to be.
And you should have heard the pool man when I told him I was painting her turquoise, silly boys they just don't get it, do they?
After many coats of primer and two coats of paint here she is in all her quirky glory!
I kept her top the natural wood, cause I am loving that look right now and re-stained her with "Gel Stain" which rocks...absolutely the best stain to use hands down!
I really want to add these handles from Anthropologie :
But at $18.00 a piece and needing 6 of them, I just couldn't swallow the cost...so she has four of her old handles and some crystal knobs on the bottom! I am not completely happy with how they look, but for a dresser that at the moment sits in a closet, I think it will do!
{don't mind the dead grass spot...}
And I am thinking she would be a perfect fit for a little girls room... & I am also thinking I showed the pool man who is the decorating boss around this nest!
Moral of this post {did you ever think I would get to that}...don't pass up a $15.00 dresser cause she bears some beat up drawers and missing handles...beauty comes in all shapes and sizes!
Cha Cha Cha!
P.S. Dear Anthropologie, please stop sending two e-mails to my inbox a day, it is very disturbing to my performance at work and if you insist on doing so, could I suggest sending along some "bogo" deals next time. Sincerely, Tara
P.S.S. This is my 400th post, goodness I talk a lot! I am planning on picking up some goodies for you girls when I go to Farm Chicks so look for a giveaway coming soon!!
xo!

Oh my goodness, I love it!!! And lucky you about Farm Chicks... I so hope to join you girls there next year!!

Me again.
You know what?
I just spent the past couple of hours reading through your old posts, all the stuff I missed because, inexplicably, I hadn't discovered you yet. I know, inconceivable!
I just had to come back to tell you how impressed I am with you as a writer, a mother, a photographer, and human being. I think you're pretty cool beans. :-)

I'm giggling over your hardware cause guess what?.... 4 of them are being delivered today {giggles} hey if this girl can't make it to Farm Chicks than i needed those pulls.
Have a fabulous day...and tell the pool man great job on fixing the drawers for his sweetie!!

You did a fabulous job on it - love the color, the top and even the handles! I just love when my husband gives me that, "you're going to do what with that" look everytime the paint brush comes out!
Really, the dresser is so charming and because I love everything in your home, I'm sure it will look great wherever you put her ~ Have a great day!

Hey Tara,
Great find and great job on the dresser! Too cute and I love the price of course. I am looking for a special, just for me dresser to use as a bed side table/extra clothing storage. In my thifting adventures I find lots of dressers, but I'm looking for one that is just right (oozing with character). Anyway, can't wait to see you at Farm Chicks. Stop by and say hi to me and Isabel at our "Tickled Pink" booth.
XO,
Lisa

Awesome job Tara!!

Could you please tell us the color and brand of gel stain.
Thanks,
Rosemary

Seriously, I never would have imagined it coming out like that! It looks fantastic and I think that what really made the look was keeping the top the newly stained wood color. It keeps it balanced and vintage looking... and I really love the mismatched drawer pulls.
By the way, I love mine! I had previously been looking at Anthro ones also. If I win the lottery I'll by us all anthro knobs :)
